I think I bought my first scanner in a month I could barely afford food.
Things happens. Heck, try a used one if your school wants to dump their stuff.
You'll get something. As long as you keep trying. :D

If I had a scanner I'd definitely use it, but I don't have the money. I literally can't find a job right now because no one ever responds to my online applications, & when I try to apply in person they tell me to apply online 😐
